Saunders looks to return to championship glory, while Isufi faces his first real test.
This weekend is packed with live sports from start to finish, especially in the various fight games. After more than a month delay, a world title bout can bring excitement to boxing fans in the states live from across the pond. You can spend your Saturday afternoon streaming Saunders vs. Isufi exclusively on ESPN+.
The Saunders vs. Isufi boxing event will be held in Lamex Stadium in England. The live broadcast on ESPN+ will begin on Saturday, May 18th at 2:30 p.m. Eastern time.
Billy Joe “Superb” Saunders (27-0) is a former world champion who is making a change in weight class in an attempt to gain another title. Saunders held the WBO World Middleweight title that now belongs to Demetrius Andrade, but he never lost to Andrade or anyone else. Saunders was scheduled to fight him, but then tested positive for a banned substance. He vacated that title. Now, he can be champion again, because this bout is for the vacant WBO World Super Middleweight title, which was vacated by Gilberto Ramirez five days ago when he officially became a light heavyweight, as reported by Dan Rafael of ESPN.com. His promoter, Frank Warren, said that Saunder’s move to super middleweight will give him the chance at bigger fights. It is true, but that is more a fault of broadcast deals, where the best middleweights are with DAZN but Saunders is with ESPN, than the fighters themselves.
Shefat Isufi (27-3-2) is far from a gatekeeper opponent for Saunders to roll over into Super Middleweight dominance. Isufi has been a WBO regional champion for years, holding the Inter-Continental title since 2017. He is riding a 10 fight win streak, and he has 20 career knockouts. The Servian-born boxer, who now lives in Germany, plans to ruin Saunders arrive to the new weight class, and claim his first ever world championship.
