No telling whether it’ll be named Wesley. Or what it’ll do when told to “Engage.”
What you need to know
- Picard follows the Trek character “into the next chapter of his life.”
- It’ll air on CBS All Access in the U.S., and Amazon Prime Video internationally.
- Picard has a dog.
It’s almost as if the mere sight of Jean-Luc Picard, staring off into the sunset, beyond the vineyard, just wasn’t enough. CBS All Access — which will be home to the new Star Trek: Picard series — had to go further.
Picard has a dog.
CBS released what’s known as “key art” ahead of the July 20 “Enter the ‘Star Trek’ Universe” panel at the San Diego Comi-Con. And we might well get some more peeks at the upcoming series, with Patrick Stewart himself set to attend, along with Alison Pill, Michelle Hurd, Evan Evagora, Isa Briones, Santiago Cabrera and Harry Treadaway. Executive producers Alex Kurtzman, Michael Chabon, Akiva Goldsman and Heather Kadin will be there as well.
It’s not known whether the dog will make an appearance — or what sort of trick he’ll do when told to “Engage.”
But we still don’t know all that much about the show, other than it will “follow this iconic character into the next chapter of his life.”
This is the second venture into the Trek universe for CBS All Access, which already has a couple of seasons of the acclaimed Star Trek: Discovery under its belt. That series takes place a decade before James T. Kirk took the helm of the USS Enterprise, and a century before the Star Trek: Enterprise series.
Stay tuned for more on Star Trek: Picard, including the all-important release date. (But don’t expect to be watching it any time soon.)

The home of Picard in retirement
CBS All Access has a surprising stable of original content, including The Twilight Zone and Star:Trek Discovery. And soon it will follow the latter years of Capt. Jean-Luc Picard.
