Oh, she said it!
What you need to know
- The new trailer for Terminator: Dark Fate hit the internet Thursday night
- We learn that Grace at least thinks she’s an enhanced human.
- Terminator: Judgment Day is in this canon, although the timeline continues to be convoluted.
Get ready for some more catchphrases. Sarah Connor is “back” in the new trailer for Terminator: Dark Fate, which hit the internet Thursday night.
The full plot of the movie, which sees the return of producer James Cameron to the franchise, is still being kept under wraps, but this new trailer reveals some new details.
For one, Dark Fate seems to take place in the same timeline as Terminator: Judgment Day, since Sarah mentions that she was able to stop the robot uprising. However, according to Grace (Mackenzie Davis), Sarah may have changed the future, but she “didn’t change our fate.”
The trailer also reveals that Grace isn’t exactly a Terminator, but an enhanced human… or at least, she thinks she is. In Terminator: Salvation, Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington) also thought he was a human but turned out to be a cyborg. Anything is possible in this universe.
We also get to see how Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Terminator factors into the plot. It definitely doesn’t seem like it was Sarah’s idea to go to him for help, but considering he also died at the end of Judgment Day, she has reasons to be cautious.
There’s still a lot of unanswered questions. Who is the girl that everybody is trying to protect? How does Sarah learn about her? How does her son John factor into the film (Edward Furlong is reprising his role as the prodigal son from Judgment Day)? What enhancements has Skynet added onto this new round of Terminators (played by Gabriel Luna)? We get to see glimpses of a fight with this Terminator as he tries to infiltrate a military base in disguise. Also, how does this factor into the already convoluted timeline? Will it even matter?
Terminator: Dark Fate hits theaters on Oct. 23, 2019.
