The Android flagship of choice
OnePlus 7 Pro is the new kid on the block concerning Android flagships. In fact, it’s OnePlus’ first foray into premium flagship territory and it does not disappoint with cutting-edge features such as a 6.6-inch AMOLED display, Snapdragon 855 processor, up to 12GB of RAM, and new triple-camera system.
However, the Samsung Galaxy S10+ is no stranger to having the best features in a smartphone. It matches the OnePlus 7 Pro on every spec — processor, memory, camera — and even outdoes it with features like wireless charging.
Each is going to deliver outstanding performance with a powerful processor.
Each is going to deliver outstanding performance with a powerful processor and enough memory to handle any intensive task. The same goes for the cameras, which feature similar sensors: a powerful main sensor along with a telephoto and ultra wide. They provide a robust versatility that’s becoming commonplace in flagship camera systems.
The comparisons continue with the in-display fingerprint scanner. The two scanners are different — the OnePlus 7 Pro has an optical scanner while the Galaxy S10+ has an ultrasonic scanner — but each live in a similar place, under the display, and deliver a seamless biometric sensor experience. This eliminates the need to add the sensor to the back of the phone, leading to a much more refined and aesthetically pleasing finish.
Where the OnePlus 7 Pro takes the edge is with design and price. Samsung chose to deliver a cutting-edge display without a notch by incorporating a punch hole cut-out for the front-facing camera. The Galaxy S10+ features a main 10-megapixel (MP) sensor and an 8MP depth sensor and has a pill-shape cut-out to house the two sensors. While this is very impressive, the OnePlus 7 Pro does it better. Its pop-out camera allows the phone to deliver a true, undisturbed, bezel-less display without any cut outs. It’s the kind of display we’ve always wanted our phones to have.
The only downside to this is seeing how well the pop-up camera mechanism is going to hold up over time. Even so, having a complete display makes up for whatever trade-offs have to be made. It looks utterly stunning.
The OnePlus 7 Pro starts at $669, well below the $999 starting price of the Galaxy S10+.
However, if you consider that with that innovation, the OnePlus 7 Pro still costs less than the Galaxy S10+, you have yourself a winner. The OnePlus 7 Pro starts at $669, well below the $999 starting price of the Galaxy S10+, although you can find it cheaper at certain retailers. Even so, you get a comparable high-end processor, display, RAM option, and camera system for hundreds less. When you put it that way, it’s hard to go against the OnePlus 7 Pro.
Let’s play devil’s advocate for one second. Although we recommend the OnePlus 7 Pro, we admit that it’s not perfect. OnePlus took some shortcuts to get to that low price, like cutting features like wireless charging and reverse wireless charging. For us, that’s not a deal breaker, but it might be for some who want the best across the board.
Then there’s the issue with availability. While the OnePlus 7 Pro is the more appealing option, it’s also harder to come by. It is only available through one carrier: T-Mobile. If you’re not on T-Mobile and don’t want to switch, your only option is to buy the phone outright without the benefit of financing. The Galaxy S10+, on the other hand, is available on every major carrier.
Which one should you buy?
The OnePlus 7 Pro is the phone for most people. It delivers on just about every level an Android flagship should, and then throw in the cheaper price and most people will gladly take it despite missing features.
If you don’t want to sacrifice any features, that’s when the Galaxy S10+ becomes the choice. You get the best hardware along with next-gen features like reverse wireless charging.
OnePlus 7 Pro
The new must-buy Android flagship
The OnePlus 7 Pro has the best specs possible without breaking the bank too much. And it also delivers some ground-breaking features like the pop-up selfie camera leading to a gorgeous display that you will never get tired of looking at.
Best of everything
Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus
Get the best of the best
Samsung’s Galaxy S10 Plus will always be considered one of best smartphones because it has it all. Display, specs, software and camera. It is the complete package. Unfortunately, it comes with a premium, but if you want the best, you know where to look.
