Both fighters are looking to right their careers after several recent losses.
UFC Fight Night keeps the MMA action rolling after the big pay per view last week. Saturday’s edition features a main event with two former-lightweights turned welterweights who hope to one day fight for a title again. This weekend, you can watch dos Anjos vs Lee on UFC FIght Night for free with a seven day trial of ESPN+.
UFC Fight Night Dos Anjos vs. Lee will be streaming live from the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, N.Y. on Saturday, May 18. This Fight Night is an ESPN+ exclusive broadcast, starting with Prelims at 5 p.m. Eastern time, then rolling into the Main Card at 8 p.m. Eastern.
The main event of the night is a welterweight battle featuring the third ranked contender “RDA” Rafael dos Anjos (28-11). He is a long time UFC competitor who joined the promotion back in November of 2008 at UFC 91. Dos Anjos has had quite the successful career mostly as a lightweight, and he held the UFC lightweight championship for over a year. However, things have been difficult for him recently, beginning when he lost that title to Eddie Alvarez. Rafael is 3-4 in his last 7 fights, including a match for the interim UFC welterweight title one year ago. He’ll need a win here if he hopes to get back to a title shot.
Kevin “Motown Phenom” Lee (17-4) is following dos Anjos path by moving up from lightweight to welterweight. While he has had a shorter career than his opponent, Lee has his own share of success, including a pair of Performance of the Night awards, and a fight for the interim lightweight title himself. Kevin Lee is 6-2 in his last 8 fights, but his last bout was his second career loss to Al Iaquinta. Lee mostly has been a wrestler, mixing takedowns and ground strikes to score points and win bouts which could be a challenge for him to repeat at the heavier weight. Richard Mann of ESPN breaks down the chances of Lee’s tactics working at welterweight.
See Rafael dos Anjos defeat Benson Henderson from back in 2014 in a fight that won Performance of the Night honors.
