Shevchenko wants to avenge her only career knockout loss.
A rematch can make for big time drama, as fans look for a replay, or revenge, of a classic fight. What about a rematch that almost no one got to see? That describes the Main Event this weekend, where two expert Flyweights meet with the title on the line. You can stream the action live with Shevchenko vs. Carmouche 2 in UFC Fight Night exclusively on ESPN+.
UFC Fight Night Shevchenko vs. Carmouche 2 is broadcasting live from the Antel Arena in Montevideo, Uruguay on Saturday, August 10. This Fight Night is airing exclusively on ESPN+, with the Prelims starting at 5 p.m. Eastern time and then the Main Card taking over at 8 p.m. Eastern.
Valentina “Bullet” Shevchenko (17-3) is daring to put her UFC Flyweight championship on the line against the only fighter to stop her. Shevchenko has only three losses, and the two against Bantamweight champ Amanda Nunes both went the distance to decisions. In 2010, in a fight setup by a local promoter, Shevchenko was TKOed by Carmouche when a doctor stopped the fight due to a bloody eye. No video of that fight exists online, but Brett Okamoto from ESPN has a great oral history of that night, including interviews with both fighters. Shevchenko has a strong background in kickboxing before moving on to Muay Thai and Taekwondo, so expect to see her superior striking skills on display Saturday.
Liz “Girl-Rilla” Carmouche (13-6) is the #3 ranked Flyweight fighter who has taken a different path to this elite level. When most fighters were developing their skills in amateur competition, Carmouche was serving in the U.S. Marine Corps after growing up on a military base in Okinawa, Japan. She eventually developed as a black belt in Jiu-Jitsu and a boxer. The boxing skills have served her well, with half of her career knockouts coming by punches. Liz has had two title shots previously, but she lost them both. Will the third time be the charm?
Think you’re ready to become a UFC champion? Watch as Shevchenko teaches her signature moves, safely from outside of the octagon.
