Before Apple’s WWDC kicks off this June, the company will reportedly hold a special event this March dedicated to refreshing its tablet portfolio, with some iPhone love thrown in for good measure.
According to Macotakara, the Cupertino company will hold an event next month where it’s expected to unveil new updates to its 12.9-inch and 9.7-inch iPad Pros—something you’d expect the company to do. But that’s not all Apple has planned.
The report claims Apple is also supposed to introduce a 7.9-inch iPad mini Pro and a 10.5-inch iPad Pro, the latter of which will allegedly sport a bezel-less design. The 10.5-inch iPad Pro has been rumored since last summer, though we’ve heard very little about what other features it will introduce, if any.
A recent report from DigiTimes claimed Apple’s new iPads will be available this summer, which is typically the timeframe we see new Apple tabs. It’s unclear if these new devices will come with the company’s rumored Pencil refresh (Apple’s stylus), something reports say will borrow heavily from Microsoft’s Surface Pen.
More iPhone upgrades
In addition to new iPads, Apple is also expected to debut a new red color to the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, along with a 128GB option for the iPhone SE. Apple sold a record number of iPhones last quarter, but with no new models expected until this fall, it seems company wants to keep interest high in the interim.
It makes sense, because Samsung, LG, and several other Android manufacturers are expected to unveil new devices in the coming weeks. Without introducing a complete refresh, Apple can make its lineup feel new with a new color here and expanded storage there.
It’s nearly March, so we’ll keep our eyes peeled for any Apple invites that go out. With Mobile World Congress around the corner, I’d expect Apple to send something out around then.
