Two 19-year-old members of Lizard Squad and PoodleCorp charged by feds


Two members from Lizard Squad and PoodleCorp, groups that serve as cyber-attack performers for hire, have been charged by federal authorities in Chicago. Both are 19 years old. The identities have been released by The United States Attorney’s Office in the Northern District of Illinois.

Zachary Buchta of Fallston, Maryland, and Bradley Jan Willem van Rooy or Leiden, the Netherlands, have been charged “with conspiring to cause damage to protected computers.”

The charges are the result of an international investigation into the computer hacking groups “Lizard Squad” and “PoodleCorp,” according to a criminal complaint and affidavit filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago.  Buchta and van Rooy allegedly conspired with others to launch destructive cyber attacks around the world, and trafficked payment accounts that had been stolen from unsuspecting victims in Illinois and elsewhere.

Fallston and van Rooy are accused of participating in phone bombing (where numbers receive a mass of unsolicited phone calls) and performing DDoS attacks to bring down sites, networks and services.

If convicted, the pair could face a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. These two are 19 years old. That’s young.
